Our Story
The Studio acting school was founded by Frank and Delia Pereira in 2018 upon returning to South Africa, after almost 2 decades abroad. Their curriculum is informed by their graduate and post graduate studies in Drama, their additional American training in camera acting, as well as their unique experiences traveling to America and South East Asia. Frank holds a BA Speech and Theatre from the University of the North West and Delia holds an Honours B. Drama from the University of Stellenbosch.
They are also experienced professional TV and stage actors and have written, produced, directed and performed their own productions in South Africa as well as in America. Delia appeared in lead roles in various SABC TV drama series such as TORINGS in which she played VLAM, GRONDBARONNE in which she played VONNIE and SLEURSTROOM in which she played MONIQUE. She is also known for her part as Joe’s tempestuous ex-wife SHARON, in EGOLI on M-Net.
More recently, Delia can be seen as Genevieve in Binnelanders and Frank as Stass in Arendsvlei. They also feature in other productions such as Suidooster, Banged Up Abroad, The Devil Speaks, Projek Dina and some international TV commercials.
They love their craft and are passionate about imparting their knowledge and experience in a fun, creative way in a relaxed and safe environment.
What We Do
THE STUDIO offers acting lessons that are specifically aimed at FILM en TV acting, in other words, acting aimed at being recorded on video/film camera and ultimately broadcast on TV or the silver screen.
We not only focus on acting lessons but also on MENTORING students through the AUDITION PROCESS as well as in starting a CAREER as ACTORS for TV and film, even while learners are still at school. The entertainment industry can be very INTIMIDATING and is also notoriously PREDATORY towards young people. Therefore, we undertake to ACCOMPANY children and young adults to AUDITIONS and TO SET where possible, for protection and moral support.
We aim to create a FUN, SAFE and RELAXED environment where students can learn and explore camera acting techniques to CONFIDENTLY portray various parts for TV and film.
We explore PERSONAL PRESENTATION, SCRIPT INTERPRETATION, CONVINCING PERFORMANCE and PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT. The tenets of mainly the Stanislavski Method will be our guide to achieve performances that are realistic and believable. Creative movement, improvisation, voice development and pronunciation refinement will be incorporated into the acting exercises in order to eventually inform and enrich each role.
Over the course of the term, the students will explore all of the above concepts through working on age appropriate MONOLOGUES and SCENES from movies. All performances are done ON CAMERA and the students are able to learn by analyzing their own performances and improving upon them.
